With a Congressional Hearing Happening Tomorrow

We Need Your Help to Send the Message: Support Statehood for Puerto Rico!

Tomorrow, April 14th the House Natural Resources Committee will hold a legislative hearing on how to resolve Puerto Rico's political status. Your help is urgently needed to tell Congress to pass H.R. 1522, the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act of 2021 introduced last month by Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL), Rep. Jennifer González-Colón (R-PR) and a bipartisan group of House members.

Opponents to Puerto Rico statehood are trying to distract Congress from last November's majority vote in favor of statehood for Puerto Rico. To do this, Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced the H.R. 2070, the Puerto Rico Self-Determination Act, which ironically ignores the last three self-determination votes in Puerto Rico where statehood has won. Instead, it says those votes don't matter and calls for a convoluted status assembly that opens the door to impossible options that won't resolve the issue.

Ahead of tomorrow's hearing we need your help to contact your Members of Congress and urge them to support H.R. 1522, the Puerto Rico Statehood Admission Act. To help out, click on the button below!

While H.R. 1522 responds to a valid exercise of self-determination by the people of Puerto Rico and offers a clear path to statehood, the status assembly bill would just confuse and delay the process, and makes no Congressional commitment to resolve Puerto Rico's ultimate status.

This is a historic moment for the Puerto Rico statehood movement. We urge you to join us in putting pressure on Congress, and encourage you to share this message with your family and friends.

Sincerely,

George Laws Garcia
