For over 125 years, 3.2 million U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico have been denied basic democratic rights—like voting for President and electing voting members of Congress.

The most effective way to ensure equality and empower Puerto Rico’s U.S. citizens is through statehood. That’s what Puerto Ricans voted for in 2024, and that’s the mission of the Puerto Rico Statehood Council.

On November 5, 2024, Puerto Rico made history. In a landmark plebiscite, voters were asked to choose between statehood, independence, or independence with free association. A clear majority once again chose statehood.
